Lil Baby’s My Turn Named Top Rap Album of the 21st Century by Billboard

Lil Baby has achieved a monumental milestone as his 2020 album My Turn has been crowned the biggest rap album of the 21st century by Billboard. The honour comes from its remarkable performance on the Billboard 200 chart, solidifying its place in music history.

On January 9, Billboard released its list of the Top Billboard 200 Albums of the 21st Century, based on chart performance from January 1, 2000, to December 28, 2024. My Turn claimed the eighth spot overall, ranking higher than any other rap album.

The top positions on the list were dominated by two albums each from Morgan Wallen and Taylor Swift, alongside Adele’s 21, the Hamilton cast recording, and Post Malone’s Hollywood’s Bleeding.

Rap’s Representation on the List

In addition to My Turn, only a handful of rap albums made the top 25. Post Malone appeared with beerbongs & bentleys (No. 12) and Stoney (No. 24), while Kendrick Lamar’s DAMN. came in at No. 25. Drake’s Views landed at No. 28, with Pop Smoke’s posthumous Shoot for the Stars, Aim for the Moon at No. 31.

Lil Baby’s Continued Dominance

The recognition of My Turn coincides with the success of Lil Baby’s latest release, WHAM (Who Hard As Me), which debuted on January 3. The 15-track album features collaborations with Travis Scott, Future, Young Thug, GloRilla, Rod Wave, Rylo, and 21 Savage.

Chart projections suggest that WHAM will debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with estimated first-week sales of 115,000–125,000 album-equivalent units. If achieved, this will mark Lil Baby’s fourth consecutive chart-topping album, following My Turn, 2021’s The Voice of the Heroes with Lil Durk, and 2022’s It’s Only Me.

What’s Next for Lil Baby?

Lil Baby has hinted that 2025 will be a prolific year for his artistry, with plans to release two additional albums. Speaking on Lil Yachty’s A Safe Place podcast, the Atlanta rapper revealed his upcoming projects: Dominique, named after his real name, and another album focused on a “turnt lifestyle.”

“WHAM is more me on some young n***a shit – fast cars, girls, jewellery, money,” he said. “And Dominique is the serious me, more personal. That’s a part of the new journey I’m on.”

The rapper emphasized his intention to be more open with fans through his music, promising a deeper connection with his audience.

With My Turn setting a new benchmark and WHAM already charting its course for success, Lil Baby continues to cement his legacy as one of rap’s most impactful voices.
