Mbappe Reveals: Macron Called Me and Said ‘I Know You Want to Leave, But You Are Important For France’
The so-called ‘Kylian Mbappe case’ still lingers on. Months pass and, little by little, news continues to come to light about why Kylian chose to stay at Paris Saint-Germain instead of signing for Real Madrid.
As reported by Marca, Emmanuel Macron’s role was vital in this regard and Mbappe has once again acknowledged this in an interview with Sports Illustrated.
“We had several calls. In December, January, February, March…”, Mbappe admits with a chuckle, implying the insistence of the French president.
“Macron called me and said, ‘I know you want to leave, but I want you to know that you are important for France and I would not like you to leave. You have the chance to make history here. Everyone loves you.”
The PSG star could not believe the call from the head of state.
“I said I appreciated it,” Mbappe said. “It’s really crazy. The president calls you and asks you to stay.”
Mbappe also spoke about winning the 2018 World Cup.
“That changed my life,” Mbappe said. “I was already famous before, but after the World Cup it was crazy. It took me a while to learn to keep calm.”
