Megan Thee Stallion Goes Independent, Self-Funding Upcoming Album Amid Label Dispute

Megan Thee Stallion recently made a surprising revelation during an Instagram Live session, disclosing that she is currently functioning as an independent artist, covering the expenses for her upcoming album from her own pocket. This announcement arrives amidst an ongoing dispute with her record label, 1501 Certified Ent.

In the live session on October 11, the Houston-based artist stated that this is her first venture as an independent artist since her early days when it was “just me and my mama.” She affirmed that her new work will be entirely self-funded and driven by her vision and creativity.

Megan Thee Stallion further explained, “I’m so excited to be doing something for the first time independent. I don’t wanna sign to a new label right now because … I just wanna do it myself.”

Her journey as an independent artist follows her recovery from the traumatic incident involving Tory Lanez, which had temporarily sidelined her music career.

The artist has been gearing up for a powerful comeback and has teased the release of “act one” in her forthcoming music. In a recent Twitter post on October 12, she shared a brief video clip where she appeared to have vampire fangs. The video, sans audio, featured a green filter and an intriguing visual. Megan captioned the post with a simple “Let’s begin.”

On her Instagram account, Megan Thee Stallion shared a series of images forming the words “Act One” on her grid, offering a glimpse into her return to the music scene. However, she has not yet disclosed the release date or the title of the upcoming song.

This isn’t the artist’s first foray into new music since her recovery. She is starring in the A24 film “Dicks: The Musical,” and she released the movie’s lead single, “Out Alpha the Alpha.” The film, inspired by the Broadway production “F***ing Identical Twins,” presents Megan rapping as Gloria Masters, a character striving to rally women to challenge and surpass male dominance.

Megan Thee Stallion’s involvement in “Dicks: The Musical” was initially announced in February 2022. The R-rated musical takes a “subversive” approach to the classic 1998 movie “The Parent Trap.”
