Meta Addresses Software Issue Affecting Quest Headsets

Meta has acknowledged a “software update issue” that has been causing some Quest 2, Quest 3, and Quest 3S headsets to become unresponsive, a problem that has persisted for weeks. The company updated its support site to inform users of the ongoing issue, stating that most affected users are now able to use their devices as normal.

In its message, Meta explained that the software issue has prevented some headsets from starting up correctly. While many users can now use their headsets without issue, Meta is continuing to work on resolving the problem for those still experiencing difficulties.

For Quest 3S owners still facing problems, Meta has offered to send free replacements. However, the company has not mentioned any downloadable software fix for the issue.

The update from Meta is particularly significant for Quest 2 and 3 users, many of whom had previously been told that their headsets could not be fixed or replaced due to being out of warranty. Some users have since reported receiving confirmation that Meta will provide out-of-warranty service for this particular issue.

Meta first acknowledged problems with the Quest 3S devices in early December, but did not initially include the Quest 2 or 3 in its statements. The company had also rolled out a software update (Meta Quest v71) on December 9, which introduced features such as a new virtual desktop display connection method and keyboard passthrough support in virtual environments.

While the issue is being addressed, Meta continues to assure users that support is available for those still affected.
