Meta vs. Twitter: Zuckerberg’s Latest Threads App Set to Disrupt the Social Media Landscape

The rivalry between Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk escalates as Zuckerberg’s Meta teases Threads, a new app challenging Twitter’s real-time conversation space, set to launch on Thursday.
Threads, resembling Twitter, emphasizes conversations, building a following, and connecting with like-minded people, according to the App Store description.

The App Store description of the app offers a clear picture of what to expect. “Threads is where communities come together to discuss everything from the topics you care about today to what’ll be trending tomorrow,” it reads.

“Whatever it is you’re interested in, you can follow and connect directly with your favorite creators and others who love the same things — or build a loyal following of your own to share your ideas, opinions and creativity with the world.”

Meta’s move coincides with Twitter’s recent turmoil, including a weekend outage and temporary tweet-reading limits due to data scraping concerns.

Musk, Twitter’s owner, sarcastically echoed Meta executives’ reported remarks, commenting on Threads’ launch and stating, “Thank goodness they’re so sanely run.”

Since taking Twitter private, Musk has disrupted the platform, alienating advertisers and high-profile users, now seeking ways to revive growth, including the upcoming payment requirement for TweetDeck.

Twitter aims to encroach on Meta’s domain by adding encrypted messaging and upcoming call features, potentially competing with Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp.

The rivalry between Musk and Zuckerberg might extend beyond business, as the two discussed the possibility of a cage fight, favoring the Las Vegas arena hosting the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
