Mr Macaroni Recounts 2021 Arrest, Reveals How Police Ordeal Made Him Fearless

Nigerian comedian and activist Adebowale Debo Adedayo, popularly known as Mr Macaroni, has shared how his 2021 arrest by police during a protest transformed his outlook, making him fearless in his advocacy for justice.

Following the #EndSARS movement’s protests against police brutality and the tragic events at Lekki Tollgate on October 20, 2020, Adedayo joined others in February 2021 to oppose the planned reopening of the tollgate. His participation led to his arrest, defying government orders and marking a turning point in his journey as an activist.

In an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Mr Macaroni recounted how he was stripped naked and subjected to harsh treatment by police officers. “All the fear in me disappeared after that experience,” he said. The ordeal, he explained, showed him the deep-seated anger and resentment some officers held against him and other protesters.

He further revealed that his traumatic experience has since driven his commitment to speaking out for those who lack a platform. “I feel I should be involved because God has given me the platform today, not to be popular, but so I can use it to speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves,” he expressed, emphasizing his dedication to advocating for justice.

The comedian admitted that while he attempted to convey his experience through his skits, they couldn’t fully capture the ordeal. His story has sparked renewed discussions on the state of human rights in Nigeria, further highlighting the bravery of activists like Mr Macaroni in the face of adversity.
