Mum Sold Fruits and 9 of Us Lived in One Room – Singer Crayon

Nigerian singer Charles Chibuezechukwu, popularly known as Crayon, has unveiled the personal and inspiring narrative behind his debut album, “Trench To Triumph.” The ‘Ngozi’ crooner shared that the album serves as a sonic representation of his remarkable journey, depicting his ascent from humble beginnings in the ghetto to achieving success with a record deal under Mavin Records.

Crayon reminisced about his early life, highlighting the challenges of living in a cramped one-room “face-me-I-face-you” apartment where nine family members shared space. His mother, a resilient entrepreneur, sustained the family by selling fruits in a kiosk at Iyana-Iba for an impressive 19 years.

In a recent interview with Glitch Africa, Crayon expressed, “‘Trench To Triumph’ album is my story. It’s my reality. It’s my substance. It’s everything I am today. From where I came from; being born in Orile, staying in a face-me-I-face-you apartment with nine people in a room. You open your door, you see people fighting.”

The artist’s journey, as encapsulated in the album, captures the essence of his triumphant era, celebrating the positive turn his life has taken. Crayon expressed gratitude for the transformation, stating, “Now, I’m in my triumphant era. I’m happy about life. Life is going good. Everything is amazing.” The album stands as a testament to Crayon’s resilience and determination to overcome challenges, resonating with listeners through its authentic portrayal of personal growth and triumph.
