‘My Parents Made Me Believe in Love but I Grew up to See Different World’ – Young Jonn
Afrobeats singer Young Jonn recently opened up about his upbringing and the stark differences he has encountered in the outside world. In an interview with Saige Jones, Young Jonn shared insights into his early life, revealing a deeply religious background with both his parents being pastors.
“I grew up in a religious home. Both my mum and dad were pastors. My mum had a school and was a psychologist. So, I grew up in a religious background,” he said.
The producer-turned-singer began his music journey in church, where he played the drums and keyboard. He recounted how his parents’ loving relationship shaped his early beliefs about love.
“When I was really young, I believed in love so much because of what I used to see between my parents,” Young Jonn shared. “But as I grew up, I saw the world is a lot different than that.”
Young Jonn also spoke about a significant personal loss—his mother’s passing due to cancer. He reflected on how his family, once very close-knit, had to navigate the challenges of life and loss.
“My family was a very closed one until everybody got busy with life. And life happened. My mum is late now. We lost her to cancer. It happened a while ago. I’m over it now,” he added.
Through his music and personal reflections, Young Jonn continues to navigate the complexities of life and love, bringing authenticity and depth to his artistic journey.
