NBC Bans Eedris Abdulkareem’s Protest Song ‘Tell Your Papa’ Over Offensive Content

The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has placed a broadcast ban on Eedris Abdulkareem’s latest song, Tell Your Papa, describing its content as inappropriate and in violation of broadcasting standards.

In a directive issued Thursday and signed by NBC’s Coordinating Director of Broadcast Monitoring, Susan Obi, the regulatory body instructed all radio and television stations across the country to stop airing the track. According to the memo, the song breaches Section 3.1.8 of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code, which prohibits content considered offensive, indecent, or harmful to public morality.

“The National Broadcasting Commission has identified Tell Your Papa by Eedris Abdulkareem as inappropriate for broadcast due to its objectionable nature,” the statement read. “It is therefore classified as ‘Not To Be Broadcast’ (NTBB).”

Released earlier this week, Tell Your Papa has quickly stirred conversations online for its sharp criticism of Nigeria’s leadership and economic situation. The track directly addresses Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, calling on him to relay the suffering of everyday Nigerians to his father.

This is not the first time Eedris Abdulkareem has used music to spotlight political and social issues. Known for his outspoken activism, the artist has a history of confronting authority through his lyrics.

Despite the ban, Tell Your Papa continues to trend on social media, with many Nigerians divided over the government’s decision and the message behind the song.
