Ne-Yo Officially Confirmed as Father of Two Children Following Legal Battle

In a recent development, R&B singer Ne-Yo, whose real name is Shaffer Smith, has been legally declared the father of his ex-girlfriend Sade Bagnerise’s two youngest children, Braiden and Brixton. The resolution comes after a lengthy and contentious legal battle.

According to TMZ reports, the paternity of the children was confirmed through a DNA test, leading to a court order that mandates a change in their last names from Bagnerise to Smith, in alignment with Ne-Yo’s surname. Furthermore, the court order grants these children the same rights and privileges as Ne-Yo’s other offspring.

The legal dispute began earlier this year in May when Ne-Yo filed a petition against Sade Bagnerise. In his legal filing, Ne-Yo acknowledged his biological relationship with the elder child, Braiden Bagnerise, but raised questions regarding the younger child, Brixton Bagnerise. This uncertainty prompted his demand for a paternity test.

In addition to establishing paternity, Ne-Yo also sought joint custody and a flexible parenting schedule, emphasizing the children’s best interests. He expressed his desire for Braiden to adopt his last name, Smith.

Ne-Yo’s personal life has been marked by a series of complex relationships and legal matters. In February, he finalized his divorce from Crystal Renay, which involved a substantial financial settlement of nearly $2 million. Renay initiated divorce proceedings in August 2022, just four months after the couple renewed their wedding vows. Allegations of infidelity and a secret child with Bagnerise during their eight-year marriage were central issues in the divorce.

Amidst the legal turmoil, Renay voiced her grievances on social media, describing her feelings of betrayal and deception. She opted to prioritize her well-being, stating that she could no longer pretend that the situation was anything other than it appeared. As part of the settlement, Ne-Yo agreed to provide financial support for her moving expenses and the purchase of a new vehicle, while retaining their shared property.
