Nigerian Parents Don’t Scold Children who are Breadwinners – Rema Claims

Nigerian music star Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, has suggested that parents in Nigeria tend to overlook personal choices made by children who contribute significantly to household income.

The “Calm Down” hitmaker shared the opinion during a recent conversation with content creator Enzo, who mentioned his mother’s disapproval of certain lifestyle choices, including tattoos and braided hairstyles.

Recounting his own experience, Rema responded with a lighthearted but pointed remark: “Don’t worry, you just need to hustle a little bit more. Wait till you cash out big. Nigerian parents don’t advise breadwinners.”

Enzo had earlier explained that his mother had refused to speak to him for days after he braided his hair. In response, Rema advised him to focus on financial success, implying that increased earnings would likely change how such decisions are received at home.

Rema, who rose to fame in his teens, has previously spoken about becoming the breadwinner of his family after the loss of his father. He also revealed that he earned his first million naira at the age of 17 and gave it all to his mother.

His comments have sparked conversation on social media, with many weighing in on how financial responsibility can affect family dynamics in Nigerian households.
