Netflix’s Ad-Supported Plan Surges to 23 Million Monthly Users

Netflix’s ad-supported tier has witnessed a substantial growth, reaching over 23 million monthly active users, according to Amy Reinhard, the streaming service’s President of Advertising. This marks an increase of approximately 8 million users in the past two months, with Netflix reporting 15 million global monthly active users in November 2023.

Speaking at the Variety Entertainment Summit during CES, Reinhard emphasized the company’s long-term perspective on scaling its business. The ad-supported plan’s membership has experienced nearly 70% growth quarter-over-quarter, with approximately one-third of new sign-ups opting for the ad-based service in countries where it is available.

Netflix’s ad-supported plan was introduced in 2022 in several countries, including the United States, Canada, Australia, Brazil, France, Italy, Germany, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Spain, and the UK. Priced at $6.99 a month in the US, the plan offers standard content with ads of varying lengths, including 10, 20, and 60-second advertisements.

In an October 2023 letter to shareholders, Netflix expressed optimism about its long-term opportunities in the ad-supported market, considering it a significant growth opportunity.
