Nicki Minaj Laughs Off Bullying Criticism, Says: ‘I Have to Have Some Sort of Fun’

In a recent interview following the release of Pink Friday 2, Nicki Minaj addressed the recurring accusations of being a bully with laughter and an unapologetic demeanor. During a conversation with Apple Music 1’s Ebro Darden, Minaj discussed the distinction between her rap persona and her everyday self, emphasizing that her music reflects both aspects. Unabashedly joking about “making fun of these hoes,” she acknowledged the performative nature of her role and the need to find enjoyment in her work.

Minaj asserted, “The other stuff is work and some of it is play. I mean, let’s face it. This is my fucking job. I have to have some sort of fun. If it means making fun of these hoes – why the fuck not?” In response to being labeled a “gangsta bully,” she embraced the challenge, stating, “They’ve made me the bad guy so I’ve welcomed the challenge. You know why? It’s because I know I can accept that challenge. None of them can. None.”

The critique from Akademiks, who referred to her as a “gangsta bully” and suggested competition with Cardi B, was addressed. Minaj dismissed the idea of competition but acknowledged her willingness to embrace her perceived role. Despite acknowledging Minaj’s rap prowess, Akademiks raised concerns about her “clown behavior,” particularly in relation to her husband, Kenneth Petty, potentially affecting her legacy.

On a musical note, Minaj hinted at a remix for the standout track “FTCU” from Pink Friday 2. In a now-deleted post on Twitter/X, she teased a potential male rapper featuring on the remix, engaging her fans, the Barbz, to speculate on who it might be. The rapper’s approach to criticism and her unabashed demeanor continue to be a defining aspect of her public persona.
