Nicki Minaj’s ‘Pink Friday 2’ Achieves Gold Certification and Shatters Spotify Records in 48 Hours

Nicki Minaj’s much-anticipated fifth studio album, “Pink Friday 2,” has made an explosive entrance into the music scene, securing gold certification within two days of its release and breaking Spotify streaming records.

Released on Friday, December 6, the sequel to Minaj’s debut album has already been certified gold, with 500,000 equivalent album units, encompassing both sales and streams. Notably, this figure includes the impact of three pre-released singles: “Red Ruby Da Sleeze,” “Super Freaky Girl,” and “Last Time I Saw You.”

In an impressive achievement, Nicki Minaj has set a new record on Spotify, boasting the most significant debut for an album by a female hip-hop artist. The album garnered an astonishing 41 million streams over the weekend alone.

Taking to social media to share the exciting news with her fanbase, known as the Barbz, Nicki Minaj expressed her gratitude, writing, “Barbz, Look.”

“Pink Friday 2” is projected to achieve substantial sales, with estimates ranging between 170,000 and 190,000 album-equivalent units, according to Hits Daily Double. If these predictions hold, it would mark the album as the most significant debut by a female rap artist in 2023, securing Nicki Minaj her third No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart.

Adding to the excitement, Nicki Minaj teased her devoted fans with the prospect of a deluxe edition of the album, set to drop next week. This deluxe version will feature four additional tracks, one of which includes a collaboration with Queens legend 50 Cent on the “Beep Beep (Remix).”

The collaboration was subtly hinted at by Nicki on Friday in response to a Complex headline. She teased, “Well wait til they hear Schfifty Schent verse on it next week. #GagCity we here.”

Following up on the tease, Nicki Minaj directly contacted 50 Cent on Saturday, urging him to deliver the highly anticipated feature. She wrote, “Send that verse in sir [sigh emoji]#QGTM,” accompanied by a throwback picture of the pair shared by 50 Cent as part of a birthday wish to Nicki Minaj.

“Pink Friday 2” comprises 22 tracks and features notable artists such as Drake, Lil Wayne, Future, Lil Uzi Vert, and more. This album serves as the sequel to her 2010 debut album “Pink Friday” and is Nicki Minaj’s first album since 2018’s “Queen,” which debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200.

With the album’s release, fans can anticipate an upcoming tour, with Nicki Minaj promising a unique and unprecedented experience, describing it as “greater than every other tour combined.”
