Nigerian Actress Grace Bassey Joins US Navy
Nigerian actress Grace Bassey, formerly known in Nollywood as Belinda Effah, has officially joined the United States Navy, marking a bold career transition from the big screen to military service.
The 35-year-old film star, who made her television debut in the 2005 series Shallow Waters, announced her enlistment in a recent Instagram post, where she shared photos and videos from her graduation from U.S. Navy boot camp. The achievement also granted her American citizenship.
Reflecting on her journey, Bassey noted that though she was raised in Nigeria, her experience in the United States has shaped her into a stronger and more determined person.

“This is for you, dad,” she wrote, dedicating her latest accomplishment to her late father, Naval Commander Asido Bassey Effah.
The actress, who underwent a spiritual transformation and now goes by Grace-Charis Bassey following what she described as an encounter with God, expressed pride in her new path while honouring her family’s military legacy.
