Nigerian Actress Mummy Wa Opens Up on Sexual Harassment in Nollywood [VIDEO]
Popular Nigerian actress and skit maker Kemi Ikuseedun, widely known as Mummy Wa, has shared her experience with sexual harassment in Nollywood. Speaking candidly on the WithChude podcast hosted by Chude Jideonwo, Ikuseedun described facing unwanted advances from industry figures as she tried to build her career.
Mummy Wa, who rose to prominence in 2023 through her roles in Mr Macaroni’s skits, detailed the pressures she encountered behind the scenes. She revealed that many individuals in the industry often make demands that go beyond professional boundaries.
“Behind the scenes, a lot of people are asking for things I simply cannot do,” she shared. “I’m coming from a place where people already doubted me, telling me it wouldn’t work. How many people do I want to please in this way?”
She went on to explain that despite these challenges, engaging in such compromises is not always a guarantee of career advancement. “You might actually give in and still not get the role you desire,” she said, highlighting the prevalence of exploitation.
Ikuseedun emphasized that no woman is immune from these pressures, regardless of appearance or reputation. “No woman is free. No woman is immune,” she noted, adding her commitment to maintaining her integrity in an industry she describes as challenging.
Her remarks add to the ongoing conversation about the challenges women face in Nollywood, as more actresses and industry insiders speak out about harassment and exploitation.
