Nigerian Singer Dr Sid Relocates to the United States
Nigerian musician Sydney Esiri, better known as Dr Sid, has officially confirmed his relocation to the United States. The artist shared the news during a recent appearance on the ‘No Man’s Friend’ podcast, where he revealed that his move was prompted by a new job opportunity in the U.S.
“I now live in the U.S. I left Nigeria last year after I got a job with a company in New York. They offered me a chance to move to the States and live anywhere I wanted,” Dr Sid explained. “I chose Houston, Texas, because I have family here and my best friend also lives here. I’ve been working here for the last year and a half.”
Dr Sid first gained recognition in 2002 as a member of the music collective Da Trybe, featuring in the hit song ‘Oya’ alongside artists like Sasha, 2-Shotz, and Trybesmen members Eldee and Freestyle. In 2003, he released his debut solo single ‘Don’t Stop,’ but soon after took a break from music to complete his university education, becoming a qualified dentist.
His career in music took off again after he moved to the UK, where he worked with various acts before signing with Don Jazzy’s Mo’ Hits Records in 2007. Dr Sid’s debut album Turning Point, released in 2010, produced several popular tracks, including ‘Over The Moon’ and ‘Pop Something.’
Following the dissolution of Mo’ Hits Records in 2012, he transitioned to Mavin Records, where he released his second album, Siduction, in 2013. Dr Sid also ventured into acting, making his debut in the 2014 film The Last 3 Digits.
Now settled in Houston, Texas, Dr Sid is embracing a new chapter in his career, balancing his professional life in the U.S. with his rich legacy in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
