Nigerian Women Now See Relationships as Employment, Says GehGeh

Popular media personality and content creator GehGeh has stirred controversy with his recent comments on modern relationships in Nigeria. According to him, many Nigerian women now view relationships as a form of employment, expecting their partners to shoulder financial responsibilities.

Speaking on an episode of The Honest Bunch podcast, GehGeh advised men to reconsider marriage, describing it as a “strategy” used by women to exploit men’s resources.

“Men should stop marrying because it’s a strategy women use to lure men into wasting their resources,” he said. “In my father’s era, marriage worked differently. Women provided for the family through farm work and respected their husbands’ authority. But is it like that nowadays?”

GehGeh, who hails from Urhobo in Nigeria’s Delta State, contrasted traditional marriages with modern relationships. He claimed that in the past, men were regarded as kings, often with multiple wives who contributed significantly to the household’s upkeep, while the men offered protection and leadership.

He added, “I feel Nigerian women are the worst to date or marry because they date for money. They see relationships as a form of employment. They believe their partners have to pay their bills. I’m not ready for that.”

The remarks have sparked mixed reactions on social media, with some agreeing with his perspective and others criticizing it as a generalization that undermines Nigerian women’s efforts and independence in modern relationships.
