OAP Do2dtun Criticizes Nigerian Artistes Charging in Dollars for Performances in Nigeria

Renowned media personality and actor Oladotun Ojuolape Kayode, widely known as Do2dtun, has voiced his concern over the emerging practice within the Nigerian music industry where local artists and event organizers demand payments in United States Dollars for performances in their home country.

Expressing his dismay about the situation, Do2dtun took to his X social media platform to air his grievances, highlighting the contradiction within the Afrobeat scene that artists collectively built. He stated, “This Afrobeat we all built together, na Una go use Una hands spoil am. You now charge your own people in dollars. Forget to unlock the togetherness the genre gives you and your people. Quite strange and bizarre.”

The media personality addressed the irony of local artists and event hosts within the Afrobeat genre, which originated and flourished in Nigeria, setting their booking fees in a foreign currency, pointing out the discordance of this practice in the context of the community-based nature of the music genre.
