Grammy Nominations: Presidency Congratulates Burna Boy, Davido, Asake, Others

The Presidency has extended hearty congratulations to prominent Nigerian musicians, including Davido, Burna Boy, Asake, Olamide, Ayra Starr, Tems, Fireboy DML, CKay, and Seun Kuti for their outstanding achievements in securing nominations for the 66th Grammy Awards.

The recognition comes as the quintet, comprising Davido, Burna Boy, Asake, Olamide, and Ayra Starr, earned nominations in the groundbreaking Best African Music Performance category. Burna Boy, in particular, secured an impressive total of four nominations, spanning Best Global Music Album, Best Global Music Performance, and Best Melodic Rap Performance.

Davido also received additional nods in two categories: Best Global Music Album and Best Global Music Performance. The Presidential Special Adviser to Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, conveyed the official congratulations in a statement released on Friday night.

Taking to his social media handle, Onanuga shared, “Congratulations to Nigerian singers Davido, Burna Boy, Asake/Olamide, Ayra Starr for their nominations in the 66th Grammy Awards scheduled for Sunday, February 4, 2024, at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.”

In further triumphs for the Nigerian music scene, Tems secured an additional Grammy nomination for co-writing Rihanna’s ‘Lift Me Up’ from “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” nominated in the Best Song Written for Visual Media category. Fireboy DML also marked his first Grammy nomination for his feature on Jón Batiste’s ‘World Music Radio,’ which is nominated for Album of the Year.

Additionally, CKay and Seun Kuti contributed to Janelle Monae’s ‘Age of Pleasure,’ earning nominations in the Album of the Year category. The collective success of these Nigerian artists underscores the global impact and recognition of the nation’s vibrant music industry. Music enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating the 66th Grammy Awards, set to take place on Sunday, February 4, 2024, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
