Onscreen Kisses Are Strictly Professional – Actress Soso
Nollywood actress Sophia Chisom, popularly known as Soso, has said onscreen kissing in movies should remain strictly professional and not be viewed as a pleasurable experience by actors.
The actress made the statement while reacting to comments from some actors who recently claimed they had never experienced a “good kiss” while filming romantic scenes in Nollywood productions.
Speaking during an interview with TVC, Soso explained that she maintains strict personal boundaries whenever she is required to perform kissing scenes on set.
According to her, she avoids using her tongue during such scenes and focuses only on making the performance appear believable for viewers.
“I don’t know if people kiss with their tongues but I do not kiss with my tongue. My teeth are always closed during kissing scenes, so it is just the lips. But because it is acting, we have to make it believable,” she said.
The actress added that she is careful about physical contact during filming and does not believe actors should exchange saliva with every colleague they work with.
“Some people kiss with their tongues but I don’t think it is okay to swap saliva with every single person you shoot with. Besides, it is a job,” she added.
Soso also expressed surprise at complaints from actors who say they have never had enjoyable onscreen kisses, insisting that romantic scenes are part of the profession and should not be approached for personal gratification.
“You are not supposed to get a good kiss, it is work,” she remarked.
Her comments come amid ongoing conversations within Nollywood about the realities of filming intimate scenes, with some actors recently describing onscreen kisses as awkward and unromantic due to the filming environment and production conditions.
Actor Saga Adeolu, who frequently collaborates with Soso, is among those who have publicly stated that kissing scenes in the movie industry are often far from enjoyable.
