Owners of 143,000 Lincoln SUVs Warned to Park Outside Due to Fire Risk

Ford, along with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), is issuing a warning to owners of approximately 143,000 Lincoln MKC compact SUVs.

These owners are advised to park their vehicles outside and away from buildings and other vehicles due to a potential fire risk, even when the vehicles are not running.

The issue arises from a battery monitoring sensor that is positioned in a vulnerable location within the vehicle.

When the battery or electric components around it undergo servicing, this sensor can sustain damage. This damage has the potential to cause a short circuit, which, in the absence of a fuse in the circuitry, could result in overheating and potentially lead to a fire.

The affected vehicles are the Lincoln MKC SUVs from model years 2015 through 2019. According to reports from the NHTSA, Ford has been made aware of a total of 19 underhood fires in MKCs that are potentially related, with most of these incidents occurring in North America.

However, there have been no reports of physical injuries associated with these fires.

Owners of the affected vehicles will receive notification by mail, instructing them to park their vehicles outdoors and away from other vehicles.

They will also be advised to take their vehicles to a Lincoln dealer, where a fuse will be installed at no cost to the owner.

If owners have any concerns or questions, they are encouraged to reach out to a Lincoln dealer for assistance. Alternatively, they can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332.

Owners can also visit the NHTSA’s SaferCar.gov website and enter their vehicle’s Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to determine if their vehicle is included in the recall.
