Peter Okoye Distances Himself from Namesake Arrested in Ghana
Nigerian music star Peter Okoye has spoken out after a viral video sparked confusion over the identity of a man arrested in Ghana for fraud and kidnapping.
The video, widely circulated on social media, showed Ghanaian police apprehending a 31-year-old suspect named Peter Okoye. The similarity in name led to speculation and confusion among some online users, with a few mistakenly linking the arrest to the popular musician.
In response, the singer took to his X (formerly Twitter) account to repost the video and clarify that he is not connected to the incident. Writing in Pidgin, he urged the authorities to be more precise in their communication: “Abeg make una dey specificaly dey specify which ‘PETER OKOYE’. I no be thief.”
Peter Okoye, one-half of the famous music duo P-Square, emphasized that he had nothing to do with the case and called on the Ghanaian police to publicly distinguish between himself and the arrested suspect to prevent further misinformation.
