Pizza Hut Tests Underground Deliveries Ahead of ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ Movie Release

Pizza Hut announced that it served its signature dish to select customers in the New York City subways as a promotion for the upcoming film “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem.”

The underground deliveries, available for a limited time, aimed to celebrate the Turtles’ love for pizza and pay homage to their origins while adding a modern twist, according to Pizza Hut’s chief marketing officer, Lindsay Morgan.

Customers in Manhattan had the opportunity to order Pizza Hut by texting a turtle emoji to a designated phone number and receive their pizza within minutes at designated pizza drop zones within a subway station.

A YouTube video showcased subway travelers at Union Square station, expressing surprise as their ordered pizza was hand-delivered to them.

The underground delivery test also alluded to the turtles’ fictional home in New York City’s sewer system.

Pizza Hut has previously engaged in promotional activities related to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise, such as unveiling a life-sized version of the turtles’ pizza-throwing van at the San Diego Comic-Con in 2014.
