Portable Hails Olamide as His Godfather in Music Industry
Nigerian artist Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has credited renowned rapper and YBNL boss Olamide as his “godfather” in the music industry. In a recent interview with Echo Room, Portable expressed gratitude for Olamide’s pivotal role in launching his career.
Portable recalled the backlash Olamide faced for featuring on the remix of his breakout hit Zazu in 2021. Despite the criticism, he noted that his career has since flourished, highlighting his recent collaboration with British rapper Skepta and international success.
“Olamide is my godfather. He brought me into the industry,” Portable said. “When Olamide helped me, people said he made a mistake. Look at me now, I’ve gone international, and Skepta featured me. I’m touring the world.”
The controversial artist further revealed he once reached out to Olamide, wondering if their relationship had soured because the rapper had stopped promoting him. However, Portable’s career trajectory proves Olamide’s support laid a strong foundation for his global recognition.
