Qatar 2022: Senegal Become First African Team to Win

Senegal have become the first African country to win in the ongoing World Cup after a 3-1 win over the host nation, Qatar, on Friday.

Boulaye Dia, Famara Diedhiou and Bamba Dieng netted one each to lead a superior Senegal to their first win in the 2022 World Cup, defeating Qatar 3-1 at the Al Thumama Stadium.

A lively Ismaila Sarr was active in the first half, missing a couple of fine chances to put Senegal ahead.

But, the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations winners finally managed to break the deadlock just before the break through Dia, who made the most of a mistake from Qatar’s defense to find the back of the net.

Senegal hit the ground running in the second half and doubled their lead just three minutes in through Diedhiou, who headed home following an Ismail Jakobs corner kick.

Qatar’s First World Cup Goal

Qatar pushed in their bid to score their first goal in the competition and they managed to do so through Mohammed Muntari who beat Edouard Mendy from close range.

That brought about quite a celebration from the crowd at the Al Thumama Stadium, although the joy didn’t last for long.

The Senegalese side were quick to react, as Iliman Ndiaye found Dieng, who netted his team’s third to put the game to bed with six minutes to go.
