Referee Who Made Controversial Calls vs Canada Was Already Suspended for Corruption

The Canada National Team is currently suffering an unfair result thanks to referee Janny Sikazwe, who is from the country of Zambia. During the first half of the match between Canada and Belgium, the ref started the game well by calling the first penalty. Thibaout Courtois made a fantastic save against Alphonso Davies but the Canadian team was only getting started. They completely dominated the first half with numerous occasions and another two possible penalties.

As reported by Marca, the two subsequent penalties were clear fouls inside the box that referee Sikazwe decided to not even entertain through VAR. However, replays prove that the ref should’ve called both penalties. Before the first half even ended, many different Twitter accounts started sharing some news about this ref that make us all scratch our heads. He already got suspended over a deplorable incident that took place during a 2018 game between Tunisia and Mali. What he did in today’s game pales in comparison with what he did back then.

Sikazwe’s Scandalous Suspension From CAF

During that official match, the ref simply decided to end the game in the 85th minute of the match. He also refused to review VAR for a potential red card and affected the game without question. The African Football Federation (CAF) made a thorough review of his actions and decided to suspend him. Before that happened, this ref was also involved in match-fixing scandals in the African Champions League game between Esperance and Primiero Agosto.

In Canada’s game against Belgium, the referee evidently decided to not call two penalties in Canada’s favor and Belgium got to score the opener just minutes after the second missed call. This scandalous chapter adds up to the many mysterious scandals revolving around the FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Could this referee play an even bigger role in the remainder of the tournament? If so, the entire world will be watching and ready to point out any more mistakes he makes against any national team.
