Nigerian Afrobeats superstar, Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, had the honour of meeting Rwandan President, Paul Kagame, during his visit to Kigali. Rema was in Kigali to attend the 2023 Trace Music Awards, where he was recognized for his outstanding contributions to the music industry.

At the award ceremony, Rema received two prestigious accolades: Global African Artist of the Year and Song of the Year for his hit track ‘Calm Down.’

Following the award ceremony, Rema had the privilege of visiting the presidential palace, where he expressed his feelings about Rwanda and its welcoming atmosphere. He remarked, “Coming to Rwanda, it gives me that vibe of a place I can rest and feel at home without having to travel overseas. A lot of time we just want to take that break, we just want to lay back… I feel like here we can have serene energy, that vibe. And I feel like it’s even going to be a bigger thing when we [Africans] start uniting.”

Rema also extended his gratitude to President Kagame, acknowledging the warm reception he received during his visit to Rwanda.

The meeting between Rema and President Kagame symbolizes the cultural and artistic exchange that continues to strengthen connections between African nations.
