Rema Reveals Poverty and His Mother’s Struggles Fueled His Music Career
Afrobeats sensation Divine Ikubor, known as Rema, has opened up about the hardships that drove him to pursue a career in music. In a candid interview with Capital Xtra London, Rema shared how his family’s financial struggles, particularly his mother’s, were his primary motivation.
Rema recalled how his mother couldn’t afford transport fares, forcing her to trek daily. Determined to change their situation, he committed to succeeding in the music industry. “I was tired of my mum trekking every day; she didn’t even have money for transport to use a bus or bike. So I had to take it to the next level ASAP,” he explained.
He recounted his first significant financial milestone and how he prioritized his mother’s comfort. “The moment I made money, I got her a car ASAP. We went for dinner, then I gave her that car. A lot of boys would go for their own cars first but I was still trekking, but I had to get a car for my mum first,” Rema said.
Rema expressed deep gratitude for his mother, attributing his success to her unwavering support and prayers. “She’s a great mum. She’s the reason I’m successful. Her prayers. She’s really proud of me,” he added.
This heartfelt revelation sheds light on the personal challenges that have shaped Rema’s journey and his dedication to giving back to his family.
