Samsung Acquires Whisk App to Launch ‘Samsung Food’ for Enhanced Recipe Experience

In a strategic move that merges technology and culinary convenience, Samsung has announced its acquisition of the popular recipe app Whisk. Under the new identity “Samsung Food,” the rebranded app will empower users to take their meal planning and recipe discovery to the next level.

Whisk, an Android and iOS app beloved for its seamless recipe-saving and usage capabilities, has found a new home under the Samsung umbrella. This unexpected development was unveiled today, following cryptic hints on Whisk’s social media channels in the preceding days. The transformation is set to make “Samsung Food” the go-to destination for culinary enthusiasts, replacing Whisk on both Android and iOS platforms. The shift is already evident through updated social media accounts and a website redirection to “samsungfood.com.”

Samsung discreetly acquired Whisk back in 2019, and now, with the introduction of “Samsung Food,” the tech giant is poised to offer a reimagined recipe management experience.

“Samsung Food” carries forward many of Whisk’s acclaimed features, catering to users across more than 100 countries (following a recent trimming of the list) and boasting a collection of over 160,000 recipes. The app retains its core functionalities, including the ability to save online recipes directly to the app, step-by-step cooking guides, and meal-planning tools. In essence, “Samsung Food” streamlines the meal planning and cooking journey, enhancing the user experience.

Notably, the new app also integrates seamlessly with Samsung’s range of smart appliances. The Bespoke Family Hub refrigerators will support recipes from “Samsung Food,” and plans are underway to extend compatibility to a variety of appliances, such as ovens, microwaves, and induction ranges by the end of 2023.

Looking ahead, Samsung has ambitious plans to elevate the app’s capabilities. Vision-based AI features are on the horizon for 2024, allowing the app to identify food items and meals through images, delivering comprehensive details, including nutrition information.

With its multi-faceted approach, “Samsung Food” covers four key areas – recipe discovery and personalization, tailored meal planning, connected cooking, and social sharing functions. This convergence of culinary excellence and cutting-edge technology stands to redefine the way users approach meal preparation and enjoyment.

The rollout of “Samsung Food” is currently underway as an update to the Whisk app on Android, available via the Play Store, and on iOS devices. As technology continues to shape the modern culinary experience, Samsung’s foray into the realm of food-focused applications marks an innovative stride toward seamless integration of technology into everyday life.
