Samsung Set to Launch ‘Galaxy Glass’ Mixed Reality Headset, Rivaling Apple’s Vision Pro

In a bid to challenge Apple’s upcoming Vision Pro mixed reality headset, Samsung is reportedly accelerating the launch of its own mixed reality device, the ‘Galaxy Glass.’ Originally scheduled for the end of 2024, the South Korean tech giant is now aiming for an early release in the first half of next year, as per reports from South Korea.

The Galaxy Glass is anticipated to be equipped with a Qualcomm processor and will run on an operating system developed in collaboration with Google. The partnership with Qualcomm and Google fuels speculation that the device could serve as Android’s response to Apple’s Vision Pro. Notably, Samsung has secured a trademark for the term ‘Flex Magic,’ although its exact application in marketing the device remains unclear.

While there is no official confirmation from Samsung, the move suggests an intensifying rivalry between Samsung and Apple in the tech arena. It’s essential to approach the information with caution as the details are based on unnamed industry sources, and Samsung has yet to make an official statement.

Samsung had previously outlined its mixed reality plans in February 2023, announcing a collaboration with Google and Qualcomm for an XR headset. Later in the year, the company filed a trademark application for ‘Samsung Glasses’ in the UK, indicating a potential expansion of its portfolio into virtual and augmented reality.

While the Galaxy Glass is still in development, its pricing strategy upon launch will be a crucial factor. With the Vision Pro positioned as a niche device with a hefty $3,500 price tag, Samsung could seize a significant market share by offering a more affordable alternative. The intensified competition between these tech giants is poised to shape the landscape of mixed reality devices in the coming months.
