Sean Kingston Jailed After Failing to Meet $100K Bond in Fraud Case
American singer Sean Kingston has been remanded in federal custody after failing to meet the financial terms of his bond agreement following a fraud conviction.
The 35-year-old artist, known for his 2007 hit “Beautiful Girls,” was taken into custody on April 10 after he and his legal team were unable to raise the required $100,000 in cash bail, according to AllHipHop. The full bond package required $200,000 in cash and a $500,000 personal surety backed by real estate. Despite reaching out to family members for assistance, Kingston reportedly struggled to secure the funds.
Kingston will now remain in detention until his sentencing hearing, scheduled for July 11. He had initially hoped to spend the period under house arrest.
His legal troubles stem from a fraud case involving both him and his mother, Janice Turner. The duo was found guilty last month on multiple counts, including conspiracy to commit wire fraud and four counts of wire fraud each. If convicted on all charges, they each face up to 20 years in prison per count.
The charges arose after a lawsuit filed by Ver Ver Entertainment LLC exposed a larger fraud scheme. The company accused Kingston of obtaining over $100,000 worth of high-end electronics by promising to create promotional videos featuring pop star Justin Bieber – who collaborated with Kingston on the 2010 track “Eeenie Meenie.”
According to the complaint, Kingston made an initial payment of $30,000 and agreed to a second payment of $47,000. He also pledged to complete the rest of the payment through social media endorsements. However, after the products were delivered and installed, the second payment never came, and no promotional content was posted.
The case came to a head in May 2024, when authorities raided Kingston’s Florida mansion and arrested both him and his mother. Turner, described by prosecutors as the “operator, fixer, and accountant” behind Kingston’s financial dealings, has a prior history of fraud-related offenses.
In a recent Instagram Story, Kingston appeared to comment on his situation, writing: “Lately they been tryna break me on the daily,” accompanied by a facepalm and broken heart emoji.
