Seun Kuti Reveals Fela Kuti Had Over 100 Concubines

Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti recently disclosed that his father, the legendary Fela Anikulapo Kuti, had over 100 concubines, far more than the 27 wives widely known to the public.

Speaking on the latest episode of the ‘Bahd & Boujee’ Podcast, co-hosted by reality star Tolanibaj and actress Moet Abebe, Seun Kuti shed light on the lesser-known aspects of Fela’s personal life.

“People only know of Fela’s 27 wives, they don’t know of his over 100 girlfriends that lived with us in the house,” Seun revealed.

Fela, the pioneer of Afrobeats, made headlines in 1978 when he married 27 women on a single day, an act intended to counter negative media portrayal of his female dancers and band members as “prostitutes.” This mass marriage was a bold statement meant to preserve their honor and dignity.

Seun’s revelation adds a new layer to the already colorful and controversial legacy of Fela Kuti, highlighting the complexity of his personal life and relationships.
