Target Recalls Nearly 5 Million Candles After Reports of Cuts and Severe Burns

Target is issuing a recall for approximately 5 million Threshold-brand candles in glass jars due to a risk of the glass breaking or cracking while in use, posing laceration and burn hazards.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has provided this information. According to the agency, Target has received 137 reports of candle jars breaking or cracking while lit, resulting in six injuries that included deep cuts and severe burns.

The recall list includes thirty-seven different candles with various scents, such as Apple Blossom and Breeze, Leather, and Embers. The recalled candles include the 5.5-ounce 1-Wick, 14-ounce 3-Wick, and 20-ounce 3-Wick variants.

Consumers can find the recalled item numbers on the CPSC website or by checking the bottom of the glass jars for matching numbers.

These candles were sold in Target stores nationwide from August 2019 to as recently as March 2023, with a total of 4.9 million units affected by the recall.

Target has released a statement affirming its commitment to providing high-quality and safe products to its customers and acknowledging the safety concerns identified in the CPSC press release.

The CPSC advises consumers to immediately stop using the affected candles and return them to Target for a full refund. Alternatively, customers can contact Target to receive a prepaid return label for the recalled candles.

It is important for consumers to heed this recall notice and take the necessary steps to ensure their safety and prevent potential injuries caused by the faulty candles.
