Instagram Back Up After Global Outage Affecting Thousands of Users

On Sunday, Meta Platform Inc’s Instagram experienced a technical issue that disrupted services for thousands of users. However, the company announced that the platform was back up and running for most users after resolving the problem.

According to a spokesperson from Meta, “Earlier today, a technical issue caused some people to have trouble accessing Instagram. We resolved the issue as quickly as possible for everyone who was impacted.” The company did not provide specific details regarding the number of users affected by the disruption.

Outage tracking website Downdetector.com indicated that there were over 100,000 incidents reported in the United States, 24,000 in Canada, and more than 56,000 in Britain. At the peak of the outage, over 180,000 users reported issues with accessing Instagram.

The outage began around 5:45 p.m. EST (2145 GMT) on Sunday, as recorded by Downdetector.com. However, the number of reported outages decreased to just over 7,000 by 8:30 p.m. EST.

Downdetector gathers outage information by aggregating status reports from various sources, including users.
