Tesla Cybertruck Hits the Market with a $60,990 Starting Price and 250-Mile Range

After four years since its initial unveiling and amidst delays and controversies, Tesla’s highly anticipated Cybertruck has finally reached the hands of approximately a dozen customers. However, the original base-model price of $39,900 announced in 2019 has seen a notable increase of over 50%, now standing at $60,990.

Elon Musk, Tesla’s CEO, initially claimed in 2019 that the Cybertruck would boast a 500-mile range, but the base variant currently achieves 250 miles. The all-wheel-drive (AWD) Cybertruck offers a range of 340 miles without the additional battery pack option, which could extend it to 470 miles.

The Cybertruck lineup includes three versions, with the rear-wheel-drive base model set to arrive in 2025. Next year, Tesla plans to launch the dual-motor version priced at $79,990, featuring a top speed of 112 mph, 0-60 in 4.1 seconds, and a range of 340 miles on a single charge.

In 2024, the high-performance “Cyberbeast” tri-motor trim is expected, boasting 845 horsepower, 10,296 lb-ft of torque, a top speed of 130 mph, a 320-mile range, and a claimed 0-60 time of 2.6 seconds, all for $99,990. It’s important to note that these prices do not account for federal tax credits, and electric vehicle (EV) ranges are often subject to exaggeration by manufacturers.

While the prices and range might have left some disappointed, the Cybertruck’s towing capacity of 11,000 pounds for the two higher trims (7,500 pounds for the base model) has garnered positive attention.

During the Cybertruck’s unveiling event, Tesla’s chief designer, Franz Von Holzhausen, aimed to redeem himself from the infamous windows strength test mishap in 2019. This time, using a baseball, he threw it with less force.

Notably, the Cybertruck marks Tesla’s first vehicle with bi-directional charging capabilities, enabling the battery to power external appliances or even another Cybertruck through the rear bed’s 240-volt outlet.

Despite facing challenges, including pandemic-related disruptions, Tesla aims to produce 250,000 Cybertrucks annually, with full-scale production expected post-2024.
