The Hidden Meaning Behind Arsenal-Bound Gabriel Jesus’ ‘Phone Call’ Goal Celebrations

Arsenal are on the verge of signing Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City, and there’s an interesting story behind his celebration that every Arsenal fan should know.

Over a period of 5 seasons, Jesus scored 95 goals in 236 games for Manchester City and after almost every single one of those strikes, he celebrated by bringing his hand up towards his ear, gesturing a phone call.

Explaining the maning behind his signature celebration, Jesus wrote in The Players’ Tribune back in December 2017: “Whenever I score for Manchester City, my mother calls me. As soon as the ball hits the back of the net, the phone rings.

“It doesn’t matter if she’s back home in Brazil or if she’s in the stadium watching me. She calls me every time. So I run to the corner flag, and I put my hand to my ear, and I say, ‘Alô Mãe!'”

“When we were kids, my mom would be calling me all the time to find out where I was, and if I didn’t pick up, she’d start calling all my friends.

“So when I score a goal now, even when she’s not in the stadium, I “pick up the phone” and talk to her.”

Italian football journalist, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that the Brazilian has successfully completed his medical at London Colney and an official announcement confirming the £45 million arrival of the 25-year-old striker is imminent now.

Arsenal, like always, are taking their time with the announcement, but it’s pretty clear now that Jesus has signed for us, and he will lead our line next season.
