Timaya Shares Why Portable Reminds Him of His Younger Self
Renowned Nigerian musician Timaya has opened up about his admiration for controversial street-pop artist Portable, attributing it to the striking similarities between their early careers.
In a recent interview on Channels Television, Timaya explained that Portable’s wild and unpredictable nature resonates with his own past, recalling his early days in the music industry. “Portable reminds me of my younger self because he’s crazy like me,” the “Dem Mama” singer shared.
Timaya reminisced about the first time he heard Portable’s breakout hit “Zazu Zeh.” He recalled mentioning the rising star to 2face Idibia during a trip to Delta State, saying, “That guy is just like me when I was starting out—wild and full of energy.”
Reflecting on how his own career has evolved, Timaya acknowledged the growth he has experienced. “People see me now and think I’m unproblematic, that I mind my business. But if they knew me back then, I was really crazy, hot like fire. It was a strategy for me at the time.”
