Tina Mbah Urges Nollywood Colleagues Not to Abandon Acting for Marriage
Veteran Nollywood actress Tina Mbah has advised her fellow actors to prioritise their careers and avoid sacrificing their passion for marriage, drawing from her own personal experience.
Speaking on a recent episode of Lights, Camera – It’s My Turn, Mbah encouraged actors – especially women – to remain vigilant about potential partners who may not support their career paths. She emphasised the importance of open conversations before marriage, particularly about professional goals.
“He met you as an actor, married you as an actor, and suddenly wants you to quit because of insecurity or childcare? That’s a red flag,” Mbah said. “Don’t ignore the signs. Have that discussion. If necessary, ask them to commit in writing that your career is not up for negotiation.”
The actress, a mother of two, stressed that while marriage is significant, it should not come at the cost of one’s identity or ambitions.
“There was no gun to your head. If one person doesn’t support your dreams, another will,” she added. “Stay true to yourself and don’t be blinded by appearances. Be a classic, like me.”
Mbah’s comments add to ongoing conversations in the entertainment industry about balancing personal relationships and professional growth, particularly for women in demanding careers like acting.
