Tyson Fury Retires Three Days After Announcing His Comeback

A few days ago, Tyson Fury also known as the ‘Gypsy King’ announced that he would return to the ring to face his compatriot Derek Chisora.

Just when everything seemed certain, Fury changed his mind once more, announcing that he is “officially saying goodbye” to the world of boxing.

“Thank you so much to everyone who contributed to my career over the years,” Fury said in a statement.

“After long and hard conversations, I finally decided to walk away and on my 34th birthday I say ‘bon voyage’.”

The World Boxing Council heavyweight champion had his last fight in April.

He defeated Dillian Whyte by technical knockout in the sixth round and Anthony Joshua appeared to be the next big opponent in his career, but it didn’t happen.

Fury’s career was close to perfect as he retires with a record of 32 wins, 1 draw and no losses.

Of those 32 wins, 23 came by way of knockout. Perhaps the only ‘blemish’ is that draw against Deontay Wilder in 2018.

Fury’s real retirement date was last year, after his third fight against Wilder, although he would return for the aforementioned Dillian Whyte bout.

“I’ve 150 million in the bank and nothing to prove” Fury stated after the Whyte fight.

“I promised my wife that after the three Wilder fights I was going to finish.

“I wanted to fight at home, I owed it to the fans. I think this is it for me, I think this is the end of my career.”
