Why I Braided My Hair – Adekunle Gold

Nigerian music sensation, Adekunle Kosoko, widely known as Adekunle Gold, has shared the inspiration behind his distinctive braided hairstyle, clarifying that it wasn’t a strategic branding move but rather a personal quest for something different.

The “Party No Dey Stop” singer opened up about his unique hairstyle during a guest appearance on MTV Base Africa’s program, “Touching Base,” which is hosted by actress Susan Pwajok.

Adekunle Gold explained, “There was no plan for it [my braided hairstyle] to be like a brand. In 2019, my hair was growing. Remember when I had that punk. And I was like, let me even try a new side of me. Let me even try to grow this hair and then make it. And I have really nice core pattern, whatever you guys called it. Core texture [laughs].”

He continued, “But, yeah. I just decided to grow it, and it looks good on me.”

The artist’s decision to embrace this distinctive hairstyle reflects his desire for personal expression and his openness to exploring different aspects of his identity beyond the realm of branding.
