Wizkid And Asake Drop Collaborative EP ‘REAL, Vol. 1’
Afrobeats heavyweights Wizkid and Asake have officially released a joint extended play titled REAL, Vol. 1, marking their first full collaborative project and one of the most anticipated releases of 2026.
The four-track EP follows years of fan anticipation after the duo’s earlier collaborations, including MMS and the hit single Jogodo, which enjoyed strong chart performance. With REAL, Vol. 1, the two artistes bring their creative synergy into a compact body of work that reflects both their individual identities and shared musical direction.
The project blends Wizkid’s polished, globally influenced sound with Asake’s energetic, Fuji-inspired street style, creating a balance between mainstream appeal and local authenticity. Industry observers say the EP captures the evolving sound of Afrobeats, where luxury aesthetics increasingly coexist with grassroots influences.
The tracks – Turbulence, Jogodo, Iskolodo, and Alaye – lean into a soundscape driven by Amapiano-inspired rhythms, layered log drums, and rich instrumentation. Production on the EP is led largely by Magicsticks, whose contributions feature orchestral elements such as strings and brass that add depth to the songs.
Opening track Turbulence addresses life under intense public scrutiny, while Iskolodo highlights the contrasting vocal styles of both artistes, pairing Wizkid’s smooth delivery with Asake’s chant-like melodies. Across the project, the lyrics reflect themes of success, confidence, and self-assurance, moving away from narratives of struggle to focus on sustaining achievement.
The EP’s title, REAL, nods to the artistes’ shared background and mutual respect, with references to Lagos life woven through verses delivered in Yoruba and Nigerian Pidgin. Rather than chasing trends, the project places emphasis on mood and cohesion, a choice that has already resonated strongly with listeners and curators.
Music critics have described REAL, Vol. 1 as a standout collaborative effort that reinforces Afrobeats’ growing culture of partnership among top acts. As conversations around the genre’s global expansion continue, the release is being viewed as a signal of how leading Nigerian artistes are shaping its next phase.
For fans of both Wizkid and Asake, the EP arrives as a defining moment – one that positions REAL, Vol. 1 as a major soundtrack of the year and a benchmark for future collaborations within the genre.
