Wizkid Opens Up About Struggles After Mother’s Death: “I Lost Myself”
Nigerian music star Wizkid has opened up about the deep emotional impact of losing his mother, Mrs. Jane Morayo Balogun, in his latest song, “MMS,” a collaboration with fellow artist Asake. The Grammy-winning singer revealed that the death of his mother left him feeling lost, but eventually led him to rediscover his purpose.
In the heartfelt verse, Wizkid reflects on the pain and transformation he has experienced since his mother’s passing. “Lost myself and I found my purpose,” he sings, expressing the emotional journey he has undergone.
Wizkid’s mother passed away on August 18, 2023, in London. Since her death, the singer has been open about his grief, previously sharing on social media how empty his life feels without her. On what would have been her posthumous birthday on July 4th, Wizkid shared his heartache, stating that he misses her every day and that his heart is “broken forever.”
In tribute to his late mother, Wizkid has announced plans to release a new album titled Morayo, named after her middle name, as a way to honor her memory.
