Wumi Toriola Breaks Nollywood Box Office Record with ‘Queen Lateefah’
Nollywood actress Wumi Toriola has made history by surpassing Toyin Abraham’s box office record, cementing her status as one of the industry’s leading stars.
The Federal Government, through the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB), recently crowned Toriola as the 2024 Box Office Champion, recognising her outstanding achievement in the Nigerian film industry.
Toriola’s latest movie, Queen Lateefah, has become a box office phenomenon, earning an impressive ₦350 million in just two months since its September release. The film’s earnings have now eclipsed Toyin Abraham’s Malaika, which grossed ₦302 million.
This milestone has propelled Queen Lateefah into the elite list of Nollywood’s top seven highest-grossing films of all time. With its continued success, the movie is now in contention to challenge records set by Funke Akindele’s A Tribe Called Judah and Battle on Buka Street.
Reacting to her achievement, Toriola expressed her gratitude and excitement in an Instagram post:
“No 7, Queen Lateefah is still waxing strong and shining bright! Grossing ₦350M and 7th Highest Grossing Nollywood Title of All Time. Big thank you to everyone.”
The actress’s accomplishment highlights her growing influence in Nollywood and the continued appeal of Nigerian cinema both locally and internationally. With Queen Lateefah maintaining strong momentum, industry watchers anticipate it could climb even higher on the all-time chart, setting a new benchmark for success in the industry.
