Actress Omowunmi Dada Shares Harrowing Experience With Sepsis on Film Set
Nigerian actress Omowunmi Dada has recounted a life-threatening experience after contracting sepsis while working on a film project in Oyo State.
Her revelation came in response to fellow actress Jemima Osunde, who recently shared her own health struggles after consuming contaminated food on set in Ibadan.
Dada detailed her ordeal on X.com, explaining how she was left unattended in a hotel by the production team despite her critical condition.
“My dear… I got sepsis on a project in Oyo. They literally left me in the hotel. Thank God my family and management got a car to take me to a hospital in Ibadan. I got there unconscious. It was sepsis, and I was lucky to be alive,” she wrote.
Shockingly, Dada revealed that the production company, instead of offering support, demanded a full refund for her role in the project. “Funny thing, production asked for a full refund. Hmm…” she added.
Industry Practices Under Scrutiny
Osunde, responding to Dada’s post, empathized with her experience and shared her own encounter with health issues stemming from on-set conditions.
“OMG! Sepsis? Thank God for your life sis! Thank God!” Osunde replied, before recounting her own struggles.
“Sameeee! I got myself to Lagos and to the hospital. Paid for my treatment myself. They were sending me messages about a refund. By the time my team sent a response with all the clauses they had breached in the contract, they went quiet,” Osunde wrote.
Health Risks in Nollywood
Osunde had previously disclosed that she contracted Helicobacter pylori, a stomach-infecting bacterium, from contaminated food on set in Ibadan three years ago. She has since been dealing with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), a condition that altered her life significantly.
These revelations have highlighted concerns about the working conditions in the Nigerian film industry, particularly the lack of safety measures for cast and crew.
Both actresses’ stories underscore the need for improved health and safety standards on film sets, with many calling for better accountability from production companies to ensure the welfare of their workers.
