African Governments Should Ban Kemi Badenoch from Coming to Africa – Seun Kuti

Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti has called on African governments to prohibit Kemi Badenoch, the leader of the United Kingdom’s Conservative Party, from entering the continent due to her controversial remarks about Nigeria.

Badenoch recently sparked backlash after reportedly describing her upbringing in Nigeria as being marred by fear, insecurity, and corruption. Despite criticism from prominent figures, including Nigeria’s Vice President Kashim Shettima, she has stood by her comments.

In response, Kuti voiced his disapproval during a live session on Instagram, condemning Badenoch’s remarks and her stance on colonial history.

“Many have been praising this woman,” Kuti said. “This is someone who has not only insulted us but our ancestors as well. She said we should pay Europeans for colonialism, for the millions of our ancestors killed, and for all the atrocities they committed in our lands.”

The outspoken musician further suggested that African nations take action against her. “She’s someone who should be banned by African governments from stepping into Africa. Once she steps into Africa, she should be jailed.”

Kuti’s comments add to growing tensions surrounding Badenoch’s statements, which have been widely criticised in Nigeria for being dismissive of the country’s struggles and history. The situation has reignited debates over post-colonial narratives and the relationship between Africa and the West.
