Anna Shay, ‘Bling Empire’ Star, Dies at 62
Variety has confirmed the passing of Anna Shay at the age of 62. Anna, known for her appearance in the popular Netflix reality show “Bling Empire,” tragically died following a stroke.
In a heartfelt statement to Variety, Anna’s family expressed their deep sadness: “It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Anna Shay, a cherished mother, grandmother, and charismatic star. Anna brought light into our lives and taught us valuable lessons about embracing the joy in life and appreciating its finer aspects. Although her absence is deeply felt, her impact will forever remain in our hearts.”
Born and raised in Japan, Anna Shay was the daughter of American businessman Edward Shay and her mother Ai Oizumi Shay, who had a mixed heritage of Japanese and Russian descent. Her father was the esteemed founder of Pacific Architects and Engineers, a renowned global defense contractor.
Following her father’s passing in 1995, Anna’s brother, Allen, assumed the role of CEO at Pacific Architects. In 2006, both Anna and her brother made the decision to sell the company to Lockheed Martin, consequently becoming heirs to the family’s substantial fortune.
In 2021, Anna Shay rose to prominence as a prominent figure in Netflix’s reality TV series “Bling Empire.” The show featured a captivating ensemble of Asian American socialites in Los Angeles and drew comparisons to the real-life extravagance depicted in “Crazy Rich Asians.”
According to a 2021 profile by Town & Country, Anna saw her participation in “Bling Empire” as a personal endeavor, a chance to focus on herself after devoting years to raising her son in the aftermath of her parents’ passing.
In a touching Instagram tribute, Kevin Kreider, a co-star from “Bling Empire,” reflected on the uncertainty of life and expressed remorse for not seizing more moments with Anna: “We never know when our last goodbye will come. It was unexpected, and I wish I had taken a moment to appreciate the beauty around us and embark on one more adventure with you during our last lunch.”
Another co-star, Kim Lee, conveyed her shock and shared heartfelt sentiments with Variety: “This news is incredibly shocking. I held Anna in high regard, despite any disagreements we may have had during the show. Outside of the show, I had a profound connection with her. We understood each other, and she imparted invaluable wisdom that will forever stay with me. Anna Shay was truly one of a kind—a remarkable and exceptional individual who touched the lives of many. My thoughts and condolences go out to her family during this difficult time.”
Anna Shay leaves behind her son, Kenny Kemp, as she departs this world, leaving behind a legacy of love and inspiration.
