Bovi Reveals Why He Relocated His Children Abroad
Popular Nigerian comedian Bovi Ugboma has disclosed that he moved his children abroad due to concerns over the country’s education system.
Speaking on a recent episode of the Uncolored podcast, Bovi revealed that his children have been living in the United Kingdom for the past two years, with the decision initially starting as an accident.
“My kids don’t live in Nigeria anymore. They have been in the UK for two years now. It started by accident – my first son has been there since 2021 in a boarding school,” he said.
Bovi explained that while his own experience in a Nigerian boarding school made him “street-smart,” he chose not to enroll his children in the same system because of what he described as the normalization of bullying.
“The educational system has accepted bullying by empowering senior students to mistreat their juniors under the guise of discipline,” he stated.
Speaking on the increasing rate of migration from Nigeria, the comedian highlighted that the country has avoided crises such as war and food shortages, which has prevented a total collapse. However, he pointed out that sectors like healthcare are suffering due to brain drain.
“We lose 500 doctors in a year, but around 200 new ones come in. It’s like using balm on a big wound—it hasn’t blown up in our faces yet,” he said.
Bovi urged the government to address the reasons why professionals prefer working abroad, emphasizing that factors beyond salary, such as infrastructure and work conditions, play a major role.
“Doctors leave because in other countries, there’s electricity, encouragement, and a functioning system. In Nigeria, patients have died due to power failure or a lack of blood during surgery. If you were a medical doctor, would you want to work under such conditions? The answer is no,” he added.
