‘Breaking Bad’ Actor Mark Margolis Dies At 83

Veteran actor Mark Margolis, renowned for his unforgettable portrayal of the sinister and wheelchair-bound cartel leader Hector Salamanca in the critically acclaimed TV shows “Breaking Bad” and “Better Call Saul,” passed away at the age of 83, as confirmed by his family on Friday.

The beloved actor, known for his incredible talent and powerful screen presence, breathed his last on Thursday at a New York hospital after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving wife and son, according to a statement released by the family.

Following the news of his passing, tributes poured in from fellow actors and fans alike. Bryan Cranston, who starred in “Breaking Bad,” expressed his grief on Instagram, stating, “I am very saddened today to learn of a friend’s passing. Mark Margolis was a really good actor and a lovely human being. Fun and engaging off the set, and (in the case of ‘Breaking Bad’ and ‘Your Honor’) intimidating and frightening on set.”

Bob Odenkirk, the lead actor in the spin-off series “Better Call Saul,” praised Margolis as a powerful screen presence.

The official “Breaking Bad” social media account also paid tribute, acknowledging Margolis’s immense talent that transformed Hector Salamanca into one of the most unforgettable characters in television history, with only his eyes, a bell, and a few words.

Born in Philadelphia in 1939, Margolis pursued his acting career in New York, where he became a successful character actor. His versatility and skill led to supporting roles in various films, including “Scarface,” “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective,” “Black Swan,” and the HBO series “Oz.”

In 2012, he received an Emmy nomination for his outstanding performance in “Breaking Bad,” showcasing his exceptional acting prowess.

Mark Margolis is survived by Jacqueline, his wife of 61 years, along with their only child Morgan and their three beloved grandsons. His legacy as a remarkable actor and a cherished human being will forever be remembered and celebrated by the entertainment industry and his devoted fans worldwide.
