Champions League: Muller: Mane Has Been Telling Me For 10 Days Not to Pass the Ball to Lewandowski

Thomas Muller will once again be on the pitch with Robert Lewandowski in the Champions League. However, this time they won’t be wearing the same shirt, as reported by Marca.

It is this fact that is giving rise to some jokes in Bayern Munich’s training sessions ahead of the Champions League clash with Barcelona, as the German international made clear.

“Mane has been jokingly telling me for the last 10 days to be careful not to accidentally pass the ball to Lewandowski,” Muller declared in his pre-match press conference.

“We have to play our game tomorrow and not focus too much on Lewy.

“Our connection on the pitch developed over the years. But now we have a lot of flexible players up front and we don’t have that one fixed man.

“Opponents don’t know who the fixed striker is, but we have to make it work”.

Barcelona head into the Champions League clash a much different animal to the one that has been humiliated by the Bavarian machine in recent seasons, and Muller is wary of their talent.

“We want to win in duels and we want to be active when we lose the ball,” he continued.

“The game will be open. In the Bundesliga we recently played against opponents who defended well.

“I think tomorrow will be a game that the neutral fans will enjoy.”

Champions League Priority

Bayern Munich have been unstoppable in the Bundesliga for so long that Julian Nagelsmann’s side are accused of favouring the Champions League.

A point that gains validity when you see that the German champions have drawn their last three domestic matches, and even Muller believes the Champions League brings additional motivation.

“There are matches that attract more attention, like the Champions League matches at the San Siro or against Barcelona,” he confirmed.

“It’s an extra motivation. The strikers can run that extra meter that they can’t do in the Bundesliga.

“Sometimes it’s like that, and when the best European teams meet, everyone is very motivated.

“Of course, we are aware that Barcelona had a great start to the season.

“They already scored a lot of goals. I like them. We will push our limits to win the game.”
